Last year in the months leading up to the 40k 2nd Ed Sustained Fire game day in Brisbane, Australia we ran a Slow Grow Painting Challenge to help players wanting to paint a new army in time for Sustained Fire 2026. The challenge saw many new armies painted up, and many small, quick and fun practice games played along the way as players painted armies grew by 300pts every two months until reaching the goal of 1500pts just before Sustained Fire 2026. The challenge is open again to help prepare new armies for Sustained Fire 2027, though the challenge is also open to anyone just wanting to build and paint a new 40k 2nd ed army.
This challenge is not a painting competition, there will not be an award for the best painted, instead part of the challenge is to play small games of 40k 2nd ed with your army as it grows, with the first games starting at 300pts, then adding another 300pts every two months until reaching a complete 1500pt army just before the next Sustained Fire annual game day. The Challenge will be tracked on the Sustained Fire website, so if you would like to provide photos of your army as it grows, I will add them to the website.
The guidelines for the Challenge are listed below.
